“The last great movie parody.”
Danny Cox / Collider 2024

“Wain’s absurdist rom-com parody displays affection alongside derision as it mocks, honors, and dismantles the genre.”
—Oliver O’Sullivan / Split Tooth Media 2023

“This movie stands with only a few comedies that have made me laugh the hardest in a movie theater. The first time I saw this movie, I was laughing so hard that I missed jokes, making the second viewing that much more enjoyable. They Came Together isn’t just a romantic comedy that’s actually funny, it’s a straight-up parody of the genre with gutbusting meta gags that rank among the very best from Mel Brooks (Young Frankenstein, Spaceballs) and the trio of Zucker, Abrams, and Zucker (Airplane!, The Naked Gun). It ranges from clever lampooning to downright silly slapstick. Here’s one of the scenes that never fails to crack me up, no matter how many times I see it. Stupid. Brilliant. Hilarious. There are several more scenes from this movie that I could have put above and be completely satisfied with my choice. Many of them would be included in a list of my all-time favorite comedy moments, and they can still make me cry tears of laughter. That’s how funny this movie is.”

"They Came Together Will Make You Love Rom-Coms Again"
-Vulture

"Irreverent, amusingly fast-paced and broadly hilarious." -Claudia Puig, USA Today

"Thanks to a smart screenplay, direction that perfectly captures the tone of modern rom-coms and two of the most engaging comedic leads working in movies and TV today, They Came Together is more entertaining and (in its own insane way) more endearing than two-thirds of the legitimate romantic comedies I’ve seen over the last two decades."
-Richard Roeper, Chicago Sun-Times

"David Wain‘s latest comedy brilliantly and hilariously deconstructs every aspect of the genre to provide one of the funniest films one is bound to see this year.
-Jordan Raup, Film Stage

"Easily [Wain's] best movie since Wet Hot American Summer... I don't think I've laughed harder or more consistently in a comedy in years."
- Quint, Ain't It Cool News

"With a successful gag rate that sits next to Airplane! in the laughs-per-minute region, They Came Together is a masterpiece of comedy, David Wain’s strongest film to date.
- Ethan Anderton, Box Office Buz

"[Wain and Showalter] have created the perfect parody...the film will keep you laughing every 15 seconds...every bit as brilliant as classic spoofs like Airplane!, Young Frankenstein and The Naked Gun, but still stands on its own with Wain's unique comedic sensibilities....it's glorious, and just might be Wain's best film yet...[he] and Showalter show that the art of lampooning is far from dead, and merely needed some legitimate talent to make it shine again.
